An Analysis of Illogic - from Bloomberg's own Lips

"Our most urgent challenge is ending the threat of guns and the violence they do….," re-elected Mayor Bloomberg declared in his January 1, 2006, Inaugural address. "Now we have a duty…one that rises above all partisan politics, and one we will pursue relentlessly: And that is to rid our streets of guns, and punish all those who possess and traffic in these instruments of death."
Michael Bloomberg's statement above shows he is not qualified to be the dog catcher in NYC, let alone the mayor, and certainly not the next President of the United States. Let's examine this ridiculous position logically (which, by the way, is beyond Bloomberg's ability.)

First, how much of a threat to do violence are guns? Ever seen a gun rob someone? Ever seen a gun hold up a liquor store? I've seen entire store displays of various guns and not a one of them ever threatened me in any way. In fact, I have guns in my house as we speak and none of them have ever threatened anyone or anything. And maybe someone should tell Mayor Bloomberg that guns are physically incapable of doing what he attributes them doing. But hold that thought for a little while longer. Uncle Mikey's not done with his scary bedtime story...

Second, he wants to rid our streets of guns and punish all those that possess and traffic these instruments of death. Hmm. There's alot of illogical assumptions in this last statement. Once again, much like the toys in the movie, "Toy Story," guns apparently have a secret life that we never witness (but apparently, Bloomberg does...) These guns must be different from any guns I have ever seen because they're in the streets and they're threatening the populace. And apparently if you possess one of these guns, you are automatically a criminal in Bloomberg's eyes and you should be punished.

Instruments of death? Hmm. He may be on to something here. By referring to a gun as an instrument, he has inadvertently contradicted his entire flawed premise that the gun is to blame for violent crime. Clearly, anything considered an instrument requires human intervention to initiate any action. Hmm. Mikey, which is it? Is the gun the cause of violent crime or does it require someone to use it to commit a violent act?

Hmm. In Bloomberg's fantasy milieu, guns are sentient, evil beings that scour the cities and countryside looking for victims to threaten. People that possess guns are evil by association because either only someone with evil-intent would wnat to possess one or perhaps the guns are so intensely evil that the gun takes over the person's soul much like a demonic possession. Golly-gee, Mikey, save us from this scourge!

Let's examine some facts about NYC while we're at it. Bloomberg has started his personal crusade because he claims that all of the violent crime in NYC has been committed with guns purchased from outside NYC. But at the same time, Bloomberg will state that NYC is the safest city in the country. But Mikey, didn't you just say that you have a violent crime problem? How can that be if NYC is the safest city? Maybe I should ask what you mean by safe? Safe for whom? With NYC's draconian Sullivan laws, the law-abiding citizens cannot arm themselves. Ohhhh. You meant the safest city in the country for the criminals. I get it now. Silly me.

So, NYC is the safest city in the USA for criminals, who are the only people in NYC allowed to own guns because Bloomberg won't allow the victims in NYC to arm themselves. And the root cause of all of this is evil guns.

Bloomberg, you may be a millionaire but you are certainly devoid of any grasp of logic. All your millions will not buy you logic either. The fact remains that the jurisdictions that you have attacked outside NYC as being the sources for these so-called instruments of death have far less violent crime than does NYC. The reason for this is twofold: one is widespread legal gun-ownership and the other is long term incarceration (or in some cases, execution) of violent criminals.

The root cause of violent crime in NYC has nothing to do with activities outside NYC - it has everything to do with the flawed logic applied to the problem by people like you, Bloomberg. Violent crime is committed by CRIMINALS, not GUNS. Disarming your citizens merely makes them easier targets for the CRIMINALS, hence making NYC the criminals' paradise that it is, Mikey.

It's pretty simple logic, Mikey. If you don't pursue the criminals and you disarm the citizens, you increase the incidence of violent crime. If you punish the criminals and allow the people to protect themselves with guns, then violent crime diminishes. I'm sorry that the facts burst the bubble on your fairy tale but ignoring the truth doesn't make it go away.

But I'll make a deal with you - kinda like my mama did with me when I was growing up. My mama made me pay a nickel every time I used a word she didn't like. It was very effective. I stopped doing it and mama made a little mad money. So here it is, Mikey - everytime you spout off your convoluted lies, you have to pay me $5000. I figure, at the rate you are going right now, I will amass your entire fortune before year's end. Deal?

Oh, and Mikey, guess what I'll be spending my newly acquired fortune on?
