18 Little White Lies

Well, I guess John Kerry will be calling the United States Navy liars since it has launched an official investigation into John Kerry's Vietnam War decorations. The Navy has stated
"It's the responsibility of all personnel to correct errors in official records."
The Navy launched the formal probe in response to a referral from the Pentagon's inspector general's office. The referral was based on a complaint filed by the Washington-based legal watchdog group, Judicial Watch.

The inspector general's office responded to the watchdog group via letter.
"Concerning our allegations of violations of Uniform Code of Military Justice, we have the responsibility to ... 'report suspected or alleged violations.' We have informed the secretary of the Navy of the allegations."

Former Navy Secretary John Lehman has challenged the authenticity of his signature on one of Kerry's war decorations. Lehman stated that Navy records needed to be "thoroughly researched and the facts established."

Many of the questionable aspects of Kerry's combat record appear to be based on processing errors. However, even if the errors were based on inadvertent mistakes, any corrections would force Kerry to acknowledge that his citations touting his heroism that have been posted to his Web site for months were false - a development that could have devastating political consequences. Why doesn't that surprise me?

Why couldn't John Kerry just admit that there were errors? He has to know that the citations are incorrect. Oh, that's right - it was seared in his memory that he was in Cambodia on Christmas Eve 1968 at the behest of the Nixon Administration. Except his personal journal and his biography actually places him 50 miles away from Cambodia in Vietnam and the Nixon Administration didn't take office until January 1969. So I guess since he's been touting those erroneous war records for 35 years, they're seared into his selective memory as well.

Gee, Mr. Kerry, didn't you say no matter how many times you repeat a lie, it doesn't become the truth?

Kerry received five medals during his four months in combat in Vietnam, including a Silver Star with a "Combat V" designation. The Navy confirmed last week, however, that in the entire history of the Navy, no Silver Star has ever been awarded with "Combat V."

The Kerry campaign has stated

"The facts are clear, the Navy awarded John Kerry the Silver Star, a Bronze Star with a Combat V and three Purple Hearts. It is waste of taxpayers' dollars and the Pentagon's time, especially during wartime, to investigate a 35-year-old Navy clerical error."

Well, maybe it is a waste but Kerry didn't think it was when it came to the case of Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jeremy "Mike" Boorda in 1996. Boorda committed suicide after he was accused of wearing medals he hadn't earned. Senator Kerry said at the time that the error was "sufficient to question his (Boorda's) leadership position."

"If you wind up being less than what you're pretending to be, there is a major confrontation with value, self-esteem and your sense of how others view you."

I couldn't have said it better myself, John F(raudulent) Kerry.
